Playmobil Space the Comic Part 2
It’s going to bug me forevermore that Playmobil Galanos is missing the blue visor that is supposed to be in his helmet.
— This is not an official PLAYMOBIL comic. This is a tribute. Recommended for older kids and adults.

Hi all, just wanted to give you an update. I’m in the long process of moving, so I’ve been on hold with the comic. (It started earlier than I expected.) It’ll be back once I settle in, believe it or not with the 1000th comic!
Thanks for the update! Hope the move is going well.
Hi Kevin,
it’s good to see that the comic is going again. I’ve been a reader since the beginning, then lost track of the comic during the hiatus after Google Reader went away. I’ve noticed you’ve restarted the comic a few days ago, read through the archives (including the first 5 years I have read before), and am now fully caught up. Congratulations on your incredible work! The Jenny reveal was worth every day we’ve waited for it – I hope the end of the Dash and the alien/Scouse arcs will be as satisfying as this one was. And I can’t even guess where you’re going with the Green Spacemen. 😀
Your comic has always been very special to me, it was one of the things that have re-sparked my interest in LEGO Space back in 2008-2009. I have my own Valkyre and Jenny (Blacktron version) minifigures, I bought the Ronald & Mr. Wobbly Droid set, and assembled the Dacta Futuron astronauts because of you. While my interest lies mainly in Blacktron 2, your comic inspires me to collect the various CS homages LEGO puts out there.
I hope the next 1000 comics will be just as good as the first 1000 were. 🙂 If you’ve ever decided to make a Patreon page, there’s at least one person who would definitely subscribe.
Quick question: what other parts of the Space: The Comic multimedia franchise are available? I know of the Stuck on Mars short story in the Jouth anthology (which I found on Amazon), and I know there is at least one audiobook (which I cannot find anywhere) – is there anything else?
That covers it; we’re a franchise of nearly 1,000 comics, one short story and one lost media audiobook. lol I did write some chapters of a novel about the characters, and some additional short stories that were rejected by every major sci-fi fiction publication, but those are drafts and have never been published. Maybe I’ll post some excerpts. One actually included a character that was implied to be Schwartz’s daughter or granddaughter. When it came down to it, I realized I was trying to force my characters into another medium when they just worked best in comics. I do need to try and locate the audiobook in my files and make it available for download, though. Thanks for reminding me about that!
Thanks for taking the time to reply!
You’ve mentioned the other stories here and there, so I thought I just missed their publication, but apparently I didn’t. I cannot even begin to imagine how your stories would work in another medium, but I guess I have Stuck on Mars to see for myself. (At least for now, until you post the excerpts.)
I’d greatly appreciate if you could re-upload the audiobook, it sounded like a fun time back in the day!
Honestly, I think I ran into problems trying to shoehorn characters designed for comic strips into short stories or novels. At least, I don’t think I’m talented enough to really pull it off. I always wanted to write prose fiction, but I learned through this process that I’m not really passionate about it. My real goal was to promote my characters in another medium, and it brought all that baggage instead of just focusing on telling a good, naturally-told fictional tale. I LOVE making comic strips and visual storytelling. I am passionate about writing, but aside from comic strips it’s journalistic, research-based, non-fiction writing. Thank you again for the kind words, and I will do my best to find the sole Spaceaudiobook.
Petmas, your kind words really made my year, and we’re just getting started. 🙂 As I’ve always said, this comic might not have a ton of readers, but the ones who truly appreciate it like you make it all worthwhile. Love hearing that you bought your own set of the characters, as it were. Are you getting the new Blacktron ship LEGO is offering as an incentive? Being an update to the Invader, I just had to get it. I didn’t really needed to spend 200 bucks right now, but decided to buy a couple of Star Wars sets and keep them sealed as an investment. That’s the one LEGO theme that fairly reliably jumps in price once the sets are out of print. In any case, I’m so happy you enjoyed the Jenny reveal. I can’t wait to get back to it because the I feel the Dash and UFO storylines should end up being worth the build-up. I will tell you that Dash is the next major mystery that will be addressed.
I was kind of on the fence about the new Invader because I’m more into Blacktron 2 than 1, and I bought a bunch of sets in December just before the set was announced, so it was hard to choose something to get over the limit. However, when I saw the sweet dual-sided torso, I knew my Valkyrie needs the upgrade. 🙂
Do you plan to use it in the comic, or does it fall under the “looks too modern” umbrella? Does your policy allow using the Orange/Purple/Pink/Brown/Gray astronauts?
The Classic Space remakes feel incongruent with the older sets for me as the comic goes. I did include a cameo for the new Galaxy Explorer, but it was set in the future. I view the Space agency switching back to their classic look, but updated, over time. I have included some of the new Classic Space astronauts with different colors in the background, but again, they don’t quite feel like they fit in with the older stuff. I tend to use them as Easter eggs (green excepted).
Hey; so I was looking through Toys Period’s set reference pages for Classic Space. I noticed three things.
1. All the Classic Space vehicles that used Trans Green canopies; had a color scheme of mostly Grey with some black and some yellow. Kind of a precursor to Space Police II. Also interesting; most of these sets have Black Classic Space astronauts.
2. Almost all the Classic Space sets that used Trans blue canopies, had white and black Futuron scheme, or white and blue (Twin Starfire and Galaxy Commander), or in the case of Starfleet Voyager; gray with with white.
3. Only FX Star Patroller has the combination of Grey and blue with some black portions with Trans blue canopy parts.
I wonder if one could essentially see Space Police II and Ice Planet 2002 having their color schemes mostly starting with Classic Space,.with Unitron maybe taking some of their color schemes from FX Star Patroller?
Also, the Futuron scheme Classic Space sets, most seem to be 1987 and 1988 releases, with only one being 1986 (the Starfire I set).
Those are fascinating observations. I had never considered that the Space themes might have been inspired in that way. It adds a wonderful flow to the whole series. It would be cool to interview some of the LEGO designers from back then.
