Date Night II Part 6
The space “grid” background was a common motif in LEGO Space packaging art, so I replicated it here.

The box art on LEGO Space sets from the 80’s and 90’s was incredibly inspirational. I remember spending a good amount of time in the local Toys R’ Us looking at all the great bases and vehicles, and dreaming of what one could build. The boxes with the flip-up fronts (with more artwork on the inside of the flap) and clear windows for the minifigures and piles of pieces were just fun to browse.
Wish I’d snagged all of the Original Blacktron sets from 1987! While I was fortunate enough to eventually own a good number of the more technologically advanced Blacktron II in the early 90’s, the trans-neon green and white could not replicate the cool factor of trans-yellow and black!
The LEGO packaging designers back then knew how to give kids an open door to their imagination, with enough hints of the fun they could have without prescribing too much of a storyline. Karsin, I hope you can acquire some more Blacktron I sets as finances and opportunity allow!
