Date Night II Part 18
Poor Galanos. I keep putting him through the emotional wringer. And I don’t think I’m done yet.

I remember the Monorail being the “dream set” of kids in the late 80’s. I don’t know anyone who owned one, so it’s really cool to see it in action a few decades later. Used monorail sets are still $500+ on eBay, and “new in box” monorail sets often go for several times that amount, so it seems that people still dream of owning them.
Are there any old LEGO space sets that you are still looking for? I’ve been watching Bricklink for a good deal on an Ice Station Odyssey.
I count myself lucky to have a monorail set, although I don’t really consider myself to “own” it as it’s on long-term loan from my cousins.
Believe it or not, there are a lot of LEGO Space sets that I do not own. I’d love to have the Unitron monorail, although I wouldn’t really have room for it. I saw one at a toy show a couple of years ago, used but in the box for a decent price, but the seller was non-committal about it being complete. It sounded like he hadn’t bothered to check. So I let that ago, not eager to purchase a problem. There are a few other sets high on my list, like the Alpha-1 Rocket Base, Space Cruiser and Mobile Command Trailer. I had the latter as a kid but now it is oddly expensive for a set with only 50 parts!
Mobile Command Trailer has two unique minifigures with rare-color jet packs, and one of the figures is the “Schwartz” black figure, so that set is highy prized. I’m still missing that one myself…
That explains why the set is so expensive. I had it as a kid and was surprised when I thought to re-purchase it and saw the price.
Velocity dampers, or really weak LEGO monorail motors…whatever works…
Truth time: The motor on this Monorail set no longer works. 🙁 I need to try and clean the battery contacts to see if that will help.
