Cosmic Cruiser Part 1
While the Cosmic Cruiser looks like a bridge between the gray and blue of original LEGO Classic Space and the white and blue of Futuron, it actually was released much earlier, in 1982, a bit of an anomaly.

Probably my least favorite Space set. The whole “ship within a ship” concept is trite and unrealistic even for LEGO. And the compromises needed for such a design means that both the ship and the small scooter are sub-par (either would work well as a set on their own, witness 6842 and 918 as examples…). But the unique blue Space logo slope part is nice to have.
It’s one of those sets I’ve had sitting here built, and I was thinking, how can I use it in a story?
The Cosmic Cruiser was the first of the Lego Space sets to do the ship within ship idea, in 1982. Of the Space theme, I think half of the sub themes don’t have a flyer within a flyer.. but only Exploriens and the Mars subthemes didn’t have modular ships?
Also, the Cosmic Cruiser’s wing form would be last used on the Blacktron 2 shuttle in the Alpha Centauri base set.
