I’ve been a fan of the Rancor for a long time. And that’s odd, since I had the original Rancor toy as a kid and it lived in a brown paper grocery bag between my bed and the wall; every night, I was terrified it was going to spring to life and eat me.

Today’s comic was inspired by an undocumented feature I noticed in both the Galactic Heroes and Micro Machines versions of the Rancor that enable kids to rescue the action figures they’ve mercilessly fed to the beasts.

When I was little, there was something deeply satisfying about toys that could eat other toys. As Kenner neglected to make a toy of Jabba’s other man-eating pet, the Sarlacc pit, I used to hammer my Star Wars action figures down into a box of Crayola crayons to pretend they were getting eaten by the Saarlac. My Star Wars figures always had random streaks of colors on their legs. I guess I was just demented.

– This is not an official Rancor comic. This is a tribute.
