“Drag Kings” is now the longest story I’ve ever produced. I’m sure other storylines would have been just as long if I hadn’t created MEGA-LONG comics in the past. I often end up chopping a scripted comic in half. Part of this is to stretch out my bank of photos, but I also feel it makes for easier to read and digest comics. Of course, the longer one story goes, the further other stories I want to tell fade into the distance.

Sometimes, in the middle of all the twisty plots and bare-knuckled action, I miss the days when these guys would just sit around and B.S. about weird stuff. So here’s the downside of Schwartz’s newest starship accessory.
I am happy to report that I completed a lengthy photo session tonight (while blasting catchy pop songs on my iPod and dancin’ like I just don’t care), and there are some cool scenes (I think) coming over the next month.

It only took 42 comics, but I’ve been looking forward to having these characters meet.

It feels pointless to talk again about upcoming plans for the comic when it’s taking me months to tell one story. But I will reveal that (a.) “Drag Kings” came about, and was inserted into my existing outline, because I hadn’t featured a real Schwartz and Galanos story in a long time and (b.) I wanted them to have one more big adventure before the status quo changes drastically in the comic.

In 1992, two years after the last set to feature an actual Blacktron minifigure, LEGO snuck one of the uniform torsos into a Classic Town set called “Mag Racer” (#6648). Aside from the lack of air tanks and a red helmet, it looked like Blacktron had invaded the local speedway! I realize it was likely intended to just be a stylish racing uniform, but in my head this counted as an actual Blacktron character. So now it has a backstory. I don’t have the triangular, white flag sticker that is supposed to go on the car’s antenna and decided to just leave it off instead of recreate it.
Of course, I undermined the epic entrance of the infamous Blacktron Racer by neglecting to notice that his legs aren’t fully attached to his torso.

Late to the party, but I finally watched controversial movie “The Interview” since it arrived back on Netflix. My wife was a little puzzled as to why I was laughing SO uproariously. I even surprised myself. And then it hit me why.
The two main characters, played by James Franco and Seth Rogen, are essentially Schwartz and Galanos (at least as I see them) placed in a different setting.
Franco’s Dave Skylark possesses bloated self-confidence, immaturity, slight naivety, shocking irreverence, questionable ethics, an impulsive nature and offbeat humor, just like Commander Schwartz. They’ve both also elevated to high-profile jobs which are a questionable fit for their personalities. Commander Galanos and Rogen’s Aaron Rapaport are both loyal friends, technically proficient, level-headed and intelligent but lacking self-esteem, reserved, a little unlucky with the ladies and tend to alternate between keeping their best buddy in check and getting talked into their schemes.
How could I not love this movie?
