Bootlegs Part 13
Back when the original Transformers toys debuted in 1984, they were advertised with the effective marketing slogan “More than meets the eye!” That’s still a widely known catchphrase. A few years later, when sales for Transformers were on the descent, Hasbro tried to make them seem even cooler than before by changing the slogan to “More… much more… than meets the eye!” While it didn’t do much to help Transformers, I thought I’d re-purpose the idea as some smack-talk for Schwartz.
Speaking of which, both Schwartz, other characters and I have done a lot of talking about just how fast the Gamma-V is, but I don’t think I’d ever shown it. It was finally time.
– This is not an official LEGO comic. This is a tribute. This also has nothing to do with Best-Lock.

Are you going to show the trail of loose bricks that would inevitably shake off the Best-Lock ship during the race?
Yeah, that new slogan didn’t help sell the Transformers much, but it did make for a catchy jingle in some neat commercials for some characters that would never get animated elsewhere. I think what really did the original line in was straying from recognizable alternate modes to futuristic vehicles, using cheaper materials (but charging more), and insultingly simplified transformations. The wholesale slaughter and replacement of the beloved cast in the Movie probably didn’t help much either. It was amazing they limped on a couple years after the cartoon was cancelled, but once the comic book ended it was all over. By this point all that was left were the Micromasters and Action Masters (AKA cool, non-transforming versions of the characters you already have).
