Okay, so I cribbed a line from one of my favorite movies in that last panel.

Sometimes, over the course of the comic, I’ve sensed that certain stories or moments aren’t working as well as I had hoped or intended. And it gets amplified with the decompressed storytelling style I’ve adopted, which is largely a factor of trying to maintain an update schedule by setting a certain amount of strips (usually 6-8) in one location so I can photograph several weeks’ worth in one night. I can only hope that it all holds together and makes sense by the time I reach the end of the story, and readers can see what I was aiming for as a whole (even though it takes months to reach that goalpost). I do try to absorb comments and criticism and factor it all into the next stories I have planned. I’m trying to figure out how to break down plots and scenes a little differently. I purposefully wrote the Schwartz and Galanos section of “Time Bomb” a little more like the comic used to be, faster-paced, more quippy, more random hanging out and adventures.

Valkyrie overheard Jenny through her searing pain and semiconsciousness after being tossed off the walkway, but certainly misunderstand what Jenny meant by “taking care” of the other half of the equation.

So, I’m marking this and the next few comics NSFW even though you don’t really see anything and the characters are just talking. But yes, your boss walking by as you look at obviously mostly naked, but obscured, LEGO people is probably not something you want to explain. Schwartz, of course, is implementing the old broadcast TV trick of characters suddenly slipping back into their underwear immediately after sex. (By the way, I think a black helmet and tighty whities are quite the fashion statement.) I rationalize it as him suddenly feeling guilty and sheepish (as he should). Jenny, meanwhile, feels very confident, accomplished and free. I’m a very visual storyteller, focused on the image as much as the words. I promise you, I don’t just throw in nudity to titillate (even though, again, these are block figures) but because I feel it adds something to the mood of the story I want to convey. For example, when Red decided to sunbathe in the buff, it was more about the vulnerability most of us feel when naked, alone and suddenly confronted with danger, in that case a sudden zombie attack. At least that’s how my brain fires. Every time I step into the shower, I expect a homicidal maniac to burst into the house. Overall, I realize this is a LEGO comic and the suggestion of nudity is probably wildly and entirely inappropriate. And yes, I’m also a horndog. But this has been more about the story I want to tell, which often has adult themes and moods, for a long time, even though the medium is toys. It might be why I don’t have more readers. LOL

NSFW. The Chronovisor, one of my favorite little tidbits of time travel and mysterious Catholic lore. Look it up.

Still NSFW. I put a lot of thought into the shots of King Schwartz and Jenny, mirroring similar imagery of King Schwartz and Valkyrie from the future timeline visited in “House Call.” And then it pulls back to the reveal the disturbing image of them standing triumphantly on the wreckage of the UFO aliens. And after all that planning, the friggin’ translucent head of the alien in front was not in focus, not in any of the 50-plus shots I took and sorted through later. You motherbleepin’ alien…

Yep, still NSFW. This is the shocking, perturbing moment I’ve been building up to for…ever.

Final kinda NSFW comic. Let’s hope this is the only time in the history of cheating partners that one has insisted, “She’s not really our granddaughter!” Sorrowfully, I doubt it.
